SchoolStatus Attend Update Adds Time-Based Attendance Tracking

K-12 attendance solution provider SchoolStatus has announced an enhancement to its Attend product, adding flexible, time-based attendance tracking that measures missed learning time rather than just full-day absences.

With SchoolStatus Attend, districts "will be able to track attendance by class period, based on missed instructional time, or on a rolling basis to account for students who miss a specified number of days in a defined period," the company said in a news announcement. The product also supports block scheduling and schedules that differ from school to school.

"District leaders shouldn't have to guess where to focus," commented Dr. Kara Stern, director of Education at SchoolStatus, in a statement. "With expanded attendance tracking, they can easily see what schools will benefit from more support, what grade levels to focus on, and which students need extra help."

Time-based attendance tracking can reveal patterns that would otherwise be missed, SchoolStatus said, enabling Attend to flag absenteeism earlier. The platform's Early Warning Insights feature identifies students at risk of chronic absenteeism after just 60 instructional days, combining predictive insights with automated outreach to families who need extra support. "Personalized communications are mailed or sent digitally to encourage attendance and re-engage families and students before absences become chronic," the company explained.

"Proactive, systematic intervention works," added Stern. "Our product updates give districts the power to make this outreach personal, at scale, without overwhelming staff. That's when districts see real change."

Another new feature, Positive Notes, allows educators to reinforce positive behavior by sending families encouraging messages, such as notes recognizing improved attendance. SchoolStatus plans to release additional updates in the coming months.
