Walden U Offers Educator Grants for Classroom Equipment

The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Minnesota's Walden University has launched a new grant program designed to promote understanding between schools and their communities.

The program, called the Educator for a Day Grants, is being held in honor of Educator for a Day (Nov. 18), which takes place during American Education Week (Nov. 14–20). The National Education Association-sponsored day is dedicated to bringing members of a school community in to act as teachers for a day or otherwise experience a day in the life of a teacher.

Walden U's program will offer three $5,000 awards for public and private school PK–12 teachers in the United States and Puerto Rico who host a guest teacher on Educator for a Day. Administrators and teachers can submit nominations by filling out a form explaining what makes the nominated school "unique and compelling," what the school's plan is for participating in Educator for a Day, and what the grant would be used for. Winners will be determined based on "demonstrated passion for and knowledge of teaching, as well as the impact the grant would have on the school's ability to create a better place for students to learn and for teachers to work."

Awards can be used for classroom technology, equipment, or other purposes. Funds will be awarded to the winning institutions, not to individuals.

Nominations are due Oct. 18.

Further information about the grants, including nomination form and eligibility criteria, can be found here.
