Day of AI is an initiative MIT RAISE (Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education) developed and teamed up with i2Learning to teach K–12 students at every level what AI is, what it can do, how to use it responsibly, and what career options are available. Each grade-level appropriate curriculum contains about four hours of 30- to 60-minute lessons and activities.

A key insight for AI-based learning is that it enables adaptivity, with technology's "ability to meet students where they are, build on their strengths, and grow their knowledge and skills." But the caveat is that adaptivity can sometimes be too specific and limited, and important parts of learning can be left out or insufficiently developed. An important goal is to work "toward AI models that fit the fullness of the visions for learning — and avoid limiting learning to what AI can currently model well."

As far back as 2010, the National Education Technology Plan (NETP) set a research and development (R&D) challenge for ed tech developers to “create personalized learning systems that continuously improve as they are used.” Now a new report suggests further R&D goals and makes recommendations for AI ed tech developers, keeping in mind a focus on “context sensitivity” for success in educational goals.

The time is now to welcome AI into classrooms as an asset and an ally. There are so many things that AI can do to support teaching and learning, from analyzing data for schools and districts, to enabling students to research and understand information in different ways, and — arguably the most important thing — saving time and energy for teachers so that they can focus on the parts of teaching that are less tedious and most important.
Non-profit education training and consulting organization MindSpark has added a new on-demand course to its foundation AI training library: “Responsible AI (RAI).” The course, for teachers and school administrators, was created with the help of generative AI, and is not just “about artificial intelligence — it is artificial intelligence,” according to the organization.
