Mexican Ministry of Education Expands Satellite Broadband

Hughes Network Systems has announced that it will deliver an additional 10,860 broadband satellite terminals for the Mexican Ministry of Education's Enciclomedia program. The expansion, which adds to the previous 13,000 terminals installed, will serve approximately 17,500 secondary school classrooms in Mexico, in addition to the 37,500 primary school classrooms already being served. The Enciclomedia project is an initiative of Mexico's Ministry of Education to bring an enhanced learning environment to more than 150,000 classrooms throughout Mexico. The present network uses HN7000S broadband satellite terminals to provide high-speed Internet access, classroom monitoring and voice-over-IP (VoIP) communications. Installation of the network began in early December.
