Red Hat Academy Gets Expanded Content, New Web-Based Textbooks
Red Hat has updated Red Hat Academy, an open source education program for high school and college students.
Red Hat Academy is designed to teach Linux systems administration and systems engineering skills on a variety of the company's platform, middleware and cloud technologies. According to the company, it's an entirely Web-based curriculum that includes hands-on labs, performance-based testing, self-checking for immediate feedback and educator training and support.
Upon successful completion of a course, students receive a voucher to take the Red Hat certification exam associated with the course. Red Hat certification enables the students to participate in the Red Hat Certification Forum to connect with other Red Hat certified professionals and potential employers.
Key features of the updated Red Hat Academy include:
- Expanded content to include Red Hat Enterprise Linux Administration, Red Hat JBoss Administration, Red Hat JBoss Development and Red Hat OpenStack Enterprise Administration;
- New and redesigned Web-based textbooks that are compatible with mobile devices;
- New tests and quizzes with performance tracking;
- A new skills application lab system with self-checking performance feedback; and
- Certification exams upon completion of coursework in most areas.
Red Hat Academy has been around since 2003. Originally it included only Red Hat Linux curriculum, but the new version adds curriculum for JBoss, middleware for open hybrid cloud environments, as well as OpenStack, a cloud computing platform for providing infrastructure as a service.
Red Hat Academy courses are available now in North America and some European and Asia-Pacific countries. Further information about Red Hat Academy can be found on Red Hat's site.
