Angry Birds English Learning App on iOS and Android

The popular video game Angry Birds has been turned into a mobile app designed to help kids learn English.

Finnish game developer Rovio Entertainment is collaborating with papagei.com, a video language learning platform, to create “Learn English with Angry Birds,” an app for iOS and Android devices that features 45 interactive video courses with subtitles in 10 different language combinations. The app also includes a digital vocabulary and pronunciation coach to help teach English.

Tailored to the needs of young, digitally aware English learners, the app combines the colorful characters from Rovio’s Angry Birds Toons series with new video learning technology by papagei.com.

The app contains grammar exercises and an interactive coach which analyzes pronunciation word for word. The app also provides a detailed report of study time to allow pupils, teachers and parents the data necessary to measure learning success. 

“The interactive Angry Birds videos are entertaining, the language used is not too complicated and the episodes have the perfect length to complete short practice sequences after school,” said Michaela Meier, CEO of papagei.com, in a prepared statement.

“The partnership with papagei.com brings us together with a great digital brand, and we are delighted to be able to help support the aspirations of young language learners,” said Alex Lambeek, Rovio’s chief commercial officer.

“Learn English with Angry Birds” includes interfaces for German, Turkish, Spanish, Polish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese-speaking students.

The app can be downloaded on the Apple App store or Google Play.
